Different means of communication exist in Eorzea in order to keep in touch with your fellow adventurers.
The Mog Mail
The Mogs play the postman! By contacting a Mog Postman you can consult your mail and in send. You can also send and receive objects.
This functionality is however limited to your friends list. It may sound like a hassle, but it's a good way to fight unwanted messages.
Postal Mogs are located in all City States but also in camps with Etherites.
Les linkshells
These are groups of private chats, a sort of mini-guild with no functionality other than chat.
Creating a linkshell is free, just talk to the NPC in charge of creating LSs. It is displayed on your map by an icon representing a kind of pearl. The number of members is limited to 128.
You can have multiple linkshells simultaneously, follow their conversation and participate.
Free companies
This is the FFXIV guild system.
To form a free company you must contact an NPC from one of the Great Companies of Eorzea: The Order of the Two Vipers, The Maelstrom or The Immortals. You will need 15 gil and invite 000 people during the creation of the free company. When your 3 members have accepted the invitation, all you have to do is talk to the NPC again, pay the 15 gil and your free company will be created.
You can only be part of one free company but you will have access to many advantages:
- You will have a company safe that you can configure: right to deposit and withdraw objects, gils.
- Your free company will evolve over time: a row system allows you to gain different benefits. For example when you reach rank 2 you will unlock the creation of coat of arms. You just need to contact the NPC in charge of the coats of arms of a Great Company to create your own. Different models, symbols, shapes and colors are available. Then you can display the coat of arms on the equipment!
- You can unlock bonuses such as gaining more experience points.
- You will have the option to buy or build residential homes.
For those who are not familiar with all of the chat controls, Azashar wrote us a nice article about it!
