Today, Victrix is proud to present two of its products from the Gambit range and I had the chance to get a glimpse of them a few days ago during a private presentation with Navin Kumar (Chief Marketing Officer PDP) and Ali Homayounfar (Lead PM Victrix & PDP).
Before getting down to business, a brief presentation of the brand if you don't know it. Established in 2015 and based in San Diego, it is owned by Performance Designed Products (PDP). Victrix's goal has always been to target the eSport community, offering a product per category, always the best possible, without any compromise on quality (and also with a certain price). You have thus been able to see their products highlighted at major events, the EVO of Las Vegas and Japan, the Capcom Pro Tour, the Twitchcon or the Fortnite World Cup 2019.
Manette Xbox Dual Core Tournament
In their quest for excellence, Victrix battles latency. At a high level, the difference between a win or a loss can be milliseconds at the wrong time. Especially since latency exists at all levels: the controller, the console (or PC) and the display. Of course, Victrix cannot control the last two, but the brand tries to offer the minimum possible as an entry.
It is on this idea that this controller for Xbox was born (under official license), which prides itself on being up to eight times faster than other controllers on the market. Actually, I didn't know it, but an Xbox console listens for commands from its controllers every 4ms, so that's the maximum to beat. During its initial studies, Victrix realized that its competitors had very unequal results between digital and analog inputs, with some managing to go below this 4 ms mark on one input, but none on both. Two things that Victrix engineers intended to fix! They worked hard and came up with a solution that puts them under 4ms on both inputs. How ? Simply thanks to a double processor! You had to think about it: one is dedicated to managing commands, the other to managing audio. Thus, in addition to being fast, the controller is Dobly Atmos compatible for better spatial rendering of sound (with a lifetime subscription).
As if being fast wasn't enough for it, the controller is ultra-customizable with two to three choices for joysticks (analog sticks) and the directional button. The back can be equipped with paddles with two or four buttons and a silicone shell is even provided, to replace the usual plastic one, which makes using the controller silent. In all, fourteen customization items! An application, on PC and Xbox, completes the table in order to configure each of the controls, as well as the audio and the level of vibration. I admit that it is on this last point that I was amazed because I believe I have never seen such a level on the market today.
I haven't been able to test the controller yet but, on paper, it's incredible, and sold at a really low price for the quality, below the psychological bar of one hundred euros: €99,99. There is no doubt that this little controller will be talked about in the coming months.
Wireless gaming headset with surround sound
The Victrix Pro AF Headset is high quality but expensive, which doesn't make it affordable for everyone. So the brand decided to try something different and break their habit of only offering one product per category. This new headset was designed with the idea of creating a cheaper headset, while not neglecting quality.
Among the key features: comfort, superior audio, officially licensed Xbox and PlayStation (first licensed wireless headphones for the PS5). Users on Xbox and PC will be able to enjoy Dolby Atmos functionality (with lifetime subscription), while on PS5 they will have access to 3D audio. It is difficult to say more about these headphones without having tried them long enough to judge the quality of the sound, the comfort of the ears and their robustness.
However, I once again appreciate the thinking of the product designers who do not limit themselves to offering a wireless headset with its USB adapter. Indeed, two cables are also included in the box (USB and jack) to allow competitors to switch back to wired during their tournaments, while being able to take advantage of the independence of wireless day to day.
Sold for €129,99, a mid-range headset that risks posing as a serious competitor to Creative's SXFI Air, which is still sold for €30 more expensive.
