The EPOS company, formerly Sennheiser Gaming, now offers us the H3. A gaming headset that I had the opportunity to test for two weeks. The helmet is available in two colors, black and white. I had the black version in test. I also find the white version pretty, I'm just afraid of wear over time, because the little material I had in white has aged less well than the black one.
So I receive the package and here I am ready to open the package. The box is simple but effective. Very simple and I love it! When I take the product in hand, you feel that the helmet is sturdy and that it will not break easily by taking it off and putting it back on. The helmet is made with a plastic that does not look cheap. The pads look very nice. In short, it is sober and has no frills like LEDs everywhere (yes, I'm not a big fan: p).
In the box, the headset comes with a single jack cable, since the headset is compatible with PC, Mac®, PS4, PS5, Switch and Xbox, and a headset jack cable. Please note that this headset is not available in a wireless version. The length of the cable is 2,5m, so you won't have any problems with the length to link your devices. Afterwards, I admit that when I used it on the switch in portable mode, the cable was a bit long! But this remains a detail, manufacturers are not going to have fun providing several cables with several different sizes. Especially me it bothers me, but it may not be the case for everyone!
But what about the performance of this helmet in use?
I must admit that I was quickly blown away. Already at the level of comfort, it is very light We can keep it for hours, I did not have a feeling of heaviness. I also did not feel any heat sensation in the ears. Phenomenon that I have already experienced on many helmets. When your pads are worn out by long hours of use, you can change them by ordering them directly from the manufacturer's website.
When I used the headphones for the first time, I was afraid that the headphones were defective. The sound was very bad and only came out from one side. I had this problem on two PCs. In fact, it was I who had plugged the jack in the headphones incorrectly, you have to force it. Very small negative point.
The sound is of very good quality whether in game, listening to music, video or even for vocals with people. What I particularly liked was being able to mute the microphone just by lifting it up. It is true that it is not necessarily the most practical, a button where pressing the sound wheel would have been just as suitable. But here we are really on the detail. You also have a knob to adjust the sound, it's very intuitive. And above all, I no longer have to press to speak or mute the microphone when I want to work on my mechanical keyboard. And that's a big positive for me because I don't like people hearing background noise that I might produce.
The noise reduction is quite good, you can hardly hear what is around. Finally if the noises are not too loud, because I speak of noise reduction, but it is in fact only the pads that block the noise. There's no active noise reduction on the back to block sound.
Conclusion
So I think you have understood: this helmet made a particularly good impression on me. I did not know this brand at all and now I think I recommend it if people are looking for helmets that are not always major competing brands. The plug and play side of the headset is also significant. No need to configure via software, you plug in and it works directly. Finally, I really recommend the purchase of this helmet which will do the job well. Just a very small regret: that it does not come with a carrying pouch since it is multi-platform...
