In the series of scary horror games, I present to you GTFO. A game I learned to play recently thanks to friends, for our greatest happiness. If I had expected the sequel... Welcome to a world of nightmares that will take your guts... or your guts... it's up to you.
Graphics & atmosphere
As much to say it right away, the atmosphere is really very successful. Between the sets that send shivers down your spine and ooze insecurity, the creatures with their beat noises, the ultra-stressful assaults, the horribly obscuring fog... The zones follow each other and the anxiety will grow as you go. . The absence of music will allow you to perfectly hear the slightest noise that will haunt you during your journey. A total faultless level of this atmosphere to be cut with a knife.
History
You are one of the prisoners sent underground in a facility to take care of various tasks given by a guard. But you don't really have a choice. And that what you are going to find is not necessarily something enviable. The deeper you go, the less stable your mental health will be... All that for what? To bring to life a strange creature for which you, the disposable being, are responsible.
Gameplay
After choosing your level, you will choose your equipment carefully. And, if you are alone, those of your bots. Quite crucial to complete your mission, as a variety of equipment is the key to success in a game where the slightest mistake can be fatal. Because yes, you will learn to control your teammates led by a masterful AI or risk never succeeding in passing the obstacles. Fortunately, they are not too stupid and manage to imitate you when you are silent so as not to alert the hostile creatures: the Sleepers.
These enemies are quite special, because you can eliminate them without any risk as long as they have not detected you, even if you face them... unless you have moved during their beat which is used to detect any movement nearby. Even a slight camera movement (thus moving your head) will cause them to attack you and nearby enemies. But be careful, one shot and you'll round up the whole room. And there it will be a fierce struggle for survival with your meager ammunition.
Because your guardian, as generous as he is attentive towards you, only sent you with a limited amount of ammunition compared to the maximum of the weapon. You will be counting ammo. Each enemy eliminated in close combat with a melee weapon will be a godsend for your chargers and your defense equipment (automatic turret for example). The real challenge is represented by the alarms which will require you to place yourself in circles to validate the tests. This placement will launch an uninterrupted wave of monsters until everything has been validated, which sounds the end of the alarm. There are several levels that change the number of circles to validate.
To survive, you can prepare in advance by placing traps, turrets or even foam on the doors which has the effect of strengthening them (or on the monsters later to slow them down and freeze the weakest) . Each room contains an objective that asks you to type commands to find the key object and move on to the next step, which will always be difficult. The enemy is also the environment with an atrocious fog that cuts off all visibility. Luckily, a radar/detector can tag enemies...if you have that gear selected.
This will be an opportunity to search chests and caches to find ammunition, medpacks, grenades or fog dissipators that give you visibility for a few moments during use. Real blessings when fighting in this infamous pea mash... until you wait for the end of the level that will give you a lot of trouble...
Questions answers
I asked the game team a few questions explaining my point of view on this damn fog that haunts my games. Which made them laugh.
What is the strength of your game?
Its challenge and its difficulty which always push the players to their limits (and the atmosphere).
And the weak point?
THE FOG (laughs). In reality, it's the same as the highlight, from what I understand. It's a risk of making players give up along the way.
With you planned DLCs?
We didn't plan for that. But rather to add content to the game as the versions progress.
And have you planned how far you will go?
We don't know how far we'll really go, but level E1 (Chaos) isn't the end at all, it will go much lower.
During the rest of the conversation, we exchanged our opinions on the game, which will give you very good surprises for the future.
Summary
GTFO is certainly a demanding game that will require more than good reflexes to get by. Between the heavy atmosphere, the well-crafted gameplay (with or without friends), and a development team that knows where it's going... we definitely have a title that will find its place in any self-respecting library. I definitely recommend it. I wish you good luck, my friends, hell has only just begun!
