We had already had the opportunity to test the first version of Cambridge Audio's wireless in-ear headphones, called the Melomania Touch. I'm back today to show you an updated version, which boasts 45-hour battery life, a USB-C connection, and the completely upgraded Melomania app.
Let's start with the design. The Melomania 1+ are unlike any other device of this type, having adopted the shape of a ball. I particularly appreciate the very refined appearance of the object for a product which, as a whole, seems to be of good quality with careful assembly.
Regarding the case, this one is made of hard plastic. My great skill guarantees that a fall from a desk height had no effect on the earphone charging box! The magnetic closure will certainly have prevented the escape of these. The earbuds are charged through the metal ring, as well as the earmold grille, and charging happens automatically as soon as they are in the case. The latter has a USB type C connector on the side so that it can be connected either to a computer or to a socket with an adapter.
One part that should not be overlooked on this type of device is autonomy. It is thus possible to last between seven and nine hours. This variation will take into account the mode you are using (low power or high performance). The box meanwhile allows 45 hours of recharging, or about five iterations.
The headphones are also water and splash resistant. On the other hand, of course, immersion is not supported.
Their insertion does not pose a problem, including for those who, like me, have ear canals that are not very suitable for headphones of this type, all the more so thanks to the different tips of different sizes included in the box. Well, on the other hand, they can still be seen well when they are worn, which can make you look a little alien, even if it is more and more common to see people using them on a daily basis, in the street. , this type of headphones. So it won't be too shocking either.
The ease of use will appeal to the most lazy, with just one button! Each earphone has a button that will give access to different functions such as play, pause, next/previous track, volume adjustment, voice recognition and finally taking or hanging up a call.
To address the most important part, but also the most subjective: the audio quality. Cambridge has been making quality products for a long time and the Melomania 1+ are no exception. The sound reproduction is excellent, as is the sound insulation. But it is true that it will also depend on the physiology of your ear and, for some people, the sound insulation could be less effective. Where the shoe pinches is on the part of the calls: your interlocutor will hear your entourage as well as you, which can be painful in the long run.
In order to take advantage of all the features, it is essential to install the Cambridge audio application on your phone in order to be able to configure the headphones, or even update them. Moreover, the selection of the high performance mode is done via the application. It is nice to be able to deactivate certain controls on the headphones such as the voice assistant if you are not using it (which avoids activating it by mistake).
To conclude, what can I say? You will have probably already guessed it, my opinion on this product is more than positive. These are excellent headphones, with great autonomy, but just requiring a quiet place if you want to make calls! If you want to crack, do not delay!
