Learn the skill
Sims can learn the basics of the Mixology skill by using the bar and making drinks there. They also acquire this skill by reading the books that refer to it. If your Sim can't afford a bar yet, all you have to do is go to a bar, cocktail bar, or nightclub and just walk behind the bar preparing the drinks.
Here are the actions that will increase your skill:
- Make drinks in a bar
- Read Mixology books
- Read Another Sim's Book on Mixology
- Chat with other Sims about mixology
When the Mixology skill is at level 10, your Sim will be able to refresh drinks. Thanks to this new action, you will no longer have spoiled drinks: it allows you to reset the timer for your drink.
There are 4 quality levels for drinks:
- Ok
- All right
- Excellent
- Spoiled (you have 10 Sims hours before your drink goes bad)
Recipes
Most of the drinks that can be made by your Sims are unlocked as you progress. However, certain drinks will be available depending on your emotions as well as the encounters made. You will need the "Potions Master" Aspiration reward to craft some surprising mixes.
When you have reached level 10 in Mixology and unlocked the Great Mixologist aspiration ...
... you have access to new potion recipes. Here is the list :
Special recipe
During a job opportunity, "an incredibly old man with an incredibly long beard"came forward to sell you a old book of mythical mixology recipes. My Sim had to choose between agreeing to buy him this famous book for the sum of 200§ and refuse for fear of being ripped off.
After having obviously accepted, an effect of inspiration appeared for 8 hours to have taken advantage of this professional windfall.
A new recipe has then arrived in the list of drinks:
You can see that it requires mixology level 10 and it doesn't cost much.

My Sim is dazed, but she has a tenfold learning ability for any skill for 3 hours. This effect does not work with reading books, but you will see your skills increase very quickly with interactions.

Influence on emotions
By creating cocktails or potions, your Sim can change their mood. Indeed, when a Sim drinks a potion prepared by a mixology novice, he may feel uncomfortable or conversely if he drinks a potion made under seductive emotion, your Sim in turn becomes seductive in turn.
