Last weekend we had the chance to test the closed beta of The Division, Ubisoft's latest TPS, and it's finally time for us to share our thoughts on it with you!
In the program of this beta, we could find a lot of content with some main and secondary missions, a wide range of items to collect and not to mention the mysterious Dark Zone. Content that is therefore not lacking in the game and that from the beta! Not to mention the many hours that you will spend exploring New York, because it is indeed by surveying the whole city from top to bottom that you will be able to find better pieces of equipment or the various objects to collect. Great care has also been taken in the reproduction of the city, thus greatly contributing to the player's immersion in the game world.
The atmosphere of the game also contributes to the player's immersion in the post-apocalyptic world of The Division, we really feel a great attention to detail in the artistic direction of the game making us really feel like we are alone in the world by moments. Another very interesting element that I adored for my part: the echoes which offer us to relive important moments of the fall of the city, for example with the establishment of the perimeter around the Dark Zone.
On the combat side, we find ourselves propelled into the action with intense gunfight phases and which does not fail to recall the game systems of WatchDogs or even Ghost Recon for our greatest happiness! The dynamic roofing system is also very pleasant, the only damaging point is the impossibility of squatting, which could be very practical at times. On the action side, you won't be bored, whether solo or in the Dark Zone, the different opposing factions will be there to complicate your life.
It is also in the Dark Zone that you will encounter the most challenges, because once there you are no longer alone and the renegades will be there to remind you. As a reminder, renegades are players who have chosen to attack other players in order to take their hard-won rewards in the Dark Zone. If I can give you one piece of advice, it's this one, don't trust anyone because in the Dark Zone your only ally is your gun!
Before going to the Dark Zone, you will have to prepare yourself accordingly and for that you can count on the wide range of equipment and skills that will make your character more powerful. During the beta, we only had access to medical skill tree, focused on care and support. The skills offered in this talent tree are very interesting and for the most part very practical in combat. For example, you will have the opportunity to scan the battlefield in order to locate enemy forces and thus more easily gain the upper hand. Note that to progress in your skill tree, you will have to improve your operational base thanks to points obtained by completing secondary missions corresponding to each skill tree, that is to say medical, technological and security.
Not available in the beta but very appreciable, the character creation system, note that you can create up to four characters on the same account. On the customization side, we also find the possibility to change the appearance of our agent thanks to parts of outfits that we can find while exploring New York or killing enemies.
With this beta, The Division managed to seduce by offering an original gaming experience, without revolutionizing the TPS genre. Endowed with an atmosphere and a fantastic universe, the game manages to embark the player in the heart of a completely deserted New York and borrowed from the most total chaos.
