Some time ago, I told you about Resident Evil Village, PS4 version. Today, I'm talking to you about the PC version and its Gold edition which brings its share of new features, as well as the DLC: Rose's shadows, as well as the Resident Evil Re: Verse (even if it is automatically with anyone who has purchased the base game). But concretely, is it essential? answer a little further down.
Resident Evil Re :Verse
Let's start with the entrance! When Resident Evil 3 was released, we had the right to Resident Evil Resistance which, my faith, was very pleasant and which I frankly loved. We are entitled here to Resident Evil Re: Verse, a multiplayer deathmatch with 6 participants where you control one of the emblematic characters of the series to kill each other. When you die, you become a more or less powerful creature depending on the virus capsules you find here and there.
Even if I love this kind of additional game, here we have an accessory game that is not "complete" enough in its current form to be really interesting. Each 5-minute match takes place on a map where ammunition, special weapon and healing are hidden, which we pick up, we kill the others... and that's it. However, each character has their abilities and weapons, and the creatures are powerful in abundance, once past the 3 capsules... Hello Tyrant, Mr Baker or Nemesis. The characters respond relatively well, even if sometimes a little slowness in the actions is present, it's still pleasant to direct, especially for the creatures...
The visual style with its "comics" grain and its soundtrack make the game particular, but pleasant. On the other hand, I am not at all convinced by the interest of this game, as the final goal is only to make the best score and to increase its classification. Great for a few games, but nothing too fancy over the long haul or extended sessions. Another concern that may disgust new players... some talents are free in the battle pass, and this will therefore require playing a good number of games... against players who have already been able to sand the purchases of talents and have by therefore a certain advantage, such as increased life and firepower and therefore a victory almost acquired.
Rose's shadows
The main course ! I completed the DLC in 2 hours and 41 minutes on my first run in "normal" mode, where you control "Rose" on her journey to becoming a normal girl. But of course, nothing really happens as we want, and we meet characters from the basic game... altered and really sadistic at will, at least for the first antagonist. The notes and others that we find here and there inform us about everything that is happening, and make us ask ourselves all the more questions in the end...
In terms of gameplay, I find that it becomes really interesting because each phase of the game has its own style, combat, hide-and-seek, etc... always with Rose's powers as common threads which help us to progress as we go along. extent, with ever more features such as destroying obstacles, temporarily hindering enemies, or simply fighting. Until the final outcome which will make us fight once again, against a backdrop of revelation. The mechanics of the basic game lend themselves well to the DLC with its additions, and make everything quite clean, even if we understand that Rose is not as talented as Ethan who is much faster and more skilled than her. We hang out with our heroine, which adds a bit of a lost rabbit side.
The story will arise between the end of the basic game and its final cutscene which shows us at her father's grave, and sends us to well-known places that will resonate. Overall, the DLC is quite short and offers some touching scenes. It also opens up more of the way to continue on the Winters' saga, with surely Rose as the next main character? we'll find out in the next game!
Mercenary mode & various additions
The Gold edition includes a lot of new features, and for example, for dessert, I present to you the mercenary mode which offers us new characters to control (and unlock) like Chris Redflied, who is an expert in unarmed combat with a berserk mode and good-powered weapons, or even Lady Dimitrescu who is extraordinarily powerful, but you should know that after fighting her, and finally the very strange but very powerful Heinsenberg!
The other big addition is the third person view mode which has been quite requested and sometimes modded by fans. Here, we have the official version which allows us to have Ethan from behind, with a few small problems in my opinion... Even if the passages are awfully well done, there is a little 'rigid' side which arises at times . So when he's holding his knife, coupled with the trick that he's turning around to NEVER actually show his face (even though we can partially observe his side features). Another thing that is a bit damaging: the cutscenes and certain actions that automatically switch us back to first person mode.
Summary
For this Gold edition, Resident Evil Village shows us some major additions and an interesting DLC although too short by recycling the base game a little. The expansion itself (Winters' Expansion) is a bit pricey for the content on offer, but the edition is a good idea for those who haven't gotten their hands on the game yet when it releases. As for Re:Verse...I'm not sure it's a long-term game. So yes, the Gold edition offers us a few more things, but I'm not convinced that it's totally essential even if, like me, we're tempted to have all the DLCs offered to fully understand a game. Afterwards, for the cautious , promotions should perhaps convince you, in exchange for waiting for them.
