Last Tuesday, a new DLC was added to Planet Zoo, fitting perfectly with the atmosphere of October, and all the horror games that come out to accompany Halloween. The Twilight Pack contains five new nocturnal species, a scenario and 200 spooky new decorations.
Pets
Raccoon
This North American mammal can live alone or in pairs. It reproduces very quickly without causing any particular concern. On the other hand, it needs a land area, an aquatic area, and a climbing area, which can be a bit complex if there is not enough space. You absolutely need an anti-climbing device and 3 meter barriers, which seems like a lot for this little animal!
Red fox
Do we really need to present the one we used to call goupil, this red animal so common in our regions? Easy to raise, it needs sufficient space, depending on whether you install it alone, or in small groups (if possible with an equal number of males and females, foxes being monogamous). A small enclosure of 300 m² will suffice for a couple. Like the raccoon, on the other hand, you have to think about installing barriers of at least 3 meters, otherwise the skilled climber will go for a walk in the zoo.
Wombat commun
The wombat is a marsupial inhabiting southeastern Australia and Tasmania. He likes to live alone, and can be aggressive with his congeners, so do not waste space, and install a single wombat, very quiet, on a plot of at least 225 m². A beautiful terrier will suffice for his happiness.
striped skunk
Small animal once again solitary, it will only take one or two skunks maximum in each enclosure. If necessary, they can be housed in the same enclosure as raccoons, but also beavers and prairie dogs.
Egyptian fruit bat
This fruit bat is taking up residence in its own visitable vivarium, a new style of building that allows visitors to come into direct contact with the animals. It is important to adopt enough individuals for a group to form, the fruit bat living in the wild in large colonies of up to 35 individuals!
New settings/scenario
What better place to experience all 200 new set pieces than the career storyline set in the murky depths of an abandoned Transylvanian zoo, Castle Myers? I let you discover some screenshots that show some of the atmospheres that you will be able to create, with decorations in Gothic style and beautiful decals of the new animals.
Hey ! You've come to the right place for a new project taking place deep in the forests of Transylvania. However, the previous concerned zoo owner left it in a bad state. I bet you'll be able to make it look great again without too much trouble.
The first star, bronze, requires capturing all runaway animals. Two foxes must indeed be brought back into their enclosure, the height of the fence of which does not reach the regulatory three meters. Opposite, everything is prepared to accommodate a wombat. Insofar as the zoo requires the addition of a burrow, installing it in this habitat seems logical, especially since it immediately validates the needs of the wombat in terms of shelter. To arrive at the 3 species of habitat required, the game invites to adopt raccoons, since for them also a habitat is ready. Just like the vivarium for the five fruit bats.
Most of the enclosures require adjustments to ensure the minimum required well-being of 60%: enlargement, modification of the vegetation, installation of feeders and drinkers, addition of ludic and food optimizations, change of the terrain. Nothing insurmountable at this level because even if the habitats are nicely decorated and inserted into the environment, enough space has been provided so as not to have to push the walls. The last prerequisite is to welcome 350 visitors, which is done very quickly without realizing it, during the installation of the animals.
The sequel is relatively unexpected as the zoo is tasked with taking care of a bear named Isabelle. It is necessary to create a home for it and carry out veterinary research on its species up to level 4. In total, 7 species of habitat must be accommodated, that is to say three more (counting the bear, and the three previously installed for the bronze star). And all of them must have a well-being parameter of 70%. It is also necessary to install 4 species of vivarium (therefore 3 more), to receive 1 visitors, with a satisfaction of at least 100%. Finally, four cameras are required in the habitats.
Things start to get more complicated as the walkways are way too narrow, visitor services non-existent, and the enclosures eventually start to feel too tight for growing families. An in-depth reorganization of the facilities is necessary to ensure serene development, as well as massive recruitment to almost all positions.
Finally, the three stars, gold, follows the same logic, with an objective linked to Isabelle who asks to give birth to six cubs. In addition, the zoo must have 12 habitat species and accommodate 1 visitors, while maintaining a satisfaction rating of 900%, an education rating of 60 and offenses below 2. All zoo services must be powered by renewable energy. Finally, it is necessary to install a locomotor attraction of gondolas.
Free Update 1.11
This update is very focused on improving vivariums. First, a population limit for a vivarium can now be set to prevent overpopulation. Trainers are now able to present the animals of a vivarium to visitors. An orbital camera mode is available from the information panel of the vivarium (an excellent thing because it was sometimes very difficult to discern the little creature hidden in the middle of the vegetation). Finally, a custom texture can be used to replace the background image of the 2D facade of a vivarium.
In addition, we find:
- A new unique coat gene, piebaldism (partial albinism), is proposed for four animals: nyala, springbok, pronghorn and red fox.
- Fleeing animals will knock over full garbage cans to find food outside their habitats.
- New outlines define biomes and continents.
- A new ramp shape provides the ability to alter terrain with a customizable angle, which will be useful for creating steep driveways.
Conclusion
If only for the bats and their visitable vivarium, it would be a shame to miss this pack which fits perfectly at the time, all the games going there from their special Halloween update. The other animals are more common, but no less cute. I really like the fox. And skunks and raccoons make for a nice friendly habitat of friendly critters. Without forgetting all these building bricks which promise zoos more frightening than the others!
