Invited by Square Enix to a presentation of the Nosgoth beta, I was able to experience the war between Vampires and Humans in both camps. On this occasion a presentation of the 2 new classes (one per camp) took place.
These 2 new classes, the Prophet and the Deceiver, are added to the 6 already existing classes that Onidra had previously tested during the alpha. Regarding the game and its mechanisms, as well as its first 6 classes, I refer you to this article on alpha. I will detail you here in addition to these 2 new classes, the new mode and my impression of the game.
The Prophet (new Human class)
The Prophets are part of a very old divinatory order which has decided to turn the source of the very existence of their enemies against them. The blood that vampires worship is no longer life, but instead has become a weapon.
The Prophets use tainted blood, their own and that of others whom they bless, as weapons. They dip their pistol bullets in this blood to make them deadly to vampires. Black Blood can also be shed on the ground to temporarily repel or weaken attackers. Their bodies having mutated from acting with this stolen blood, they can also steal blood from nearby vampires to regenerate.
This last class of hand, its different means of operation, is clearly frowned upon by other human factions. However, this demonic order is seen as an ally, a powerful force that should not be overlooked in the war against their common enemy.
- Preferred weapon : pistol that they have in duplicate. Their bullets are soaked in contaminated blood that has been blessed.
- Primary capacity : repel.
- Secondary capacity : blood theft.
The Impostor (New Vampire Class)
The Deceiver is a vampire from the Zephonim clan. Less stout than the vampires of other classes, and in particular Tyrants, he has developed very powerful mental abilities. By practicing self-torture, they attempted to artificially influence their vampiric evolution.
Cunning and deception, via acts of sabotage, espionage, psychological warfare and targeted assassinations are the favorite activities of these spies / assassins. They have become masters of the art of sowing confusion and discord thanks to their unique abilities.
These masters of deception can drive a man mad for a few moments. They can also create the illusion of a human appearance to infiltrate the enemy in order to better assassinate them.
Like the prophets in humans, the Deceivers' extraordinary abilities make the other vampire clans not trust them at all and suspect them of interfering in their affairs. However, due to their usefulness in combat, and as long as the human revolt lasts, they are tolerated.
- Special ability : disguise, allows infiltration or escape.
- Primary capacity : stab in the back.
- Secondary capacity : illusion, create copies of the deceiver to deceive the enemy.
New game mode: the siege
A new game mode has been added: siege mode. In this mode, Humans are tasked with capturing targets of strategic importance. After which, they must hold and defend those points for a short period of time in order to claim them for their team.
Conversely, Vampires receive points for killing enemies and preventing them from reaching their goals. Killing is not necessarily winning if the strategic points are still protected.
Unlike Deathmatch mode, the winning team is not necessarily the one with the most kills but the one with the most points. It is a mode which makes the best use of the capacities of each side and takes advantage of their differences by assigning them objectives linked to their capacities.
New game modes will of course be added later.
My opinion on this beta
Not being too much of a fan of the universe and even less of FPS, I was nevertheless clearly surprised by Nosgoth. The game is quickly addicting, the games are quick and the capacities of the 2 camps (melee on the vampire side and distance on the human side) offer countless types of gameplay allowing all players to navigate.
Each class can also change its own abilities and offer interesting variations. So I had fun taking the tyrant's temporary invincibility ability while the enemy used his abilities before rushing on them, finishing them and devouring them to regenerate me.
On the human side, the charm and the bombs of the alchemist make him my favorite character. I am impatiently awaiting its release to titillate the vampire and devour humans. In the meantime, you can register for the beta on the official website. And here's a little video to keep you patient.
