The Crackpet Show is a rogue-lite shoot'em up that I had the opportunity to discover in my last hours of gamescom.
The story takes us to a post-apocalyptic world after the disappearance of humanity. But even if the humans are gone, their nonsense lives on. Like reality TV... It is thus through a television show that mutant animals compete to decide which will be the new dominant species. The levels of the campaign are presented as episodes, gathered in seasons, for 8 to 10 hours of play. Rogue-lite obliges, death often happens. But the progression between the parties is ensured thanks to the sponsors, who provide permanent bonuses, enough to improve their weapons to go a little further with each attempt.
Playable with 4 players in local cooperation, the game is intended, as often at the moment, to be easy to learn. Thus, the targeting of shots is automatic, in order to allow players to focus on dodging.
Cute and bloody, The Crackpet Show takes you into an offbeat universe, with a lot of crazy ideas in mind. Like for example the possibility of killing the spectators. Lots of skins to customize its appearance. Weapons galore. But the great novelty that was presented at gamescom is the infinite mode, a feature much requested by the community who are a little tired of the campaign. We see waves of ten enemies interspersed by bosses. The goal is simple: survive as long as possible, to climb the Steam leaderboard. The game will be released in its final version at the end of 2022, on PC and on consoles.
