Between a few games, I had the opportunity to chat for about twenty minutes with officials from Shadow, Yannis Weinbach and Thomas Beaufils. Of course, the interview began with a short discussion about the brand's past, which went through a difficult period, including receivership. The teams are currently working hard to restore Shadow's image and regain consumer confidence.
On October 26, a new option arrives: Power, with pre-orders open from September 20.
The objective is to offer more choices to consumers, to complete the basic Shadow offer, which thus complements the storage option already present. The option will be deployed in almost all regions where Shadow is offered, including Spagnol, of course. An early access period will test this feature which should improve the graphics capabilities of the machine, enough to activate ray tracing (at the level of a GeForce RTX 3070). This beta will be offered in priority to customers who have previously been wronged with their Ultra or Infinite orders, at a preferential rate. The option is sold for €14.99 per month, €9,99 in early access (a preferential rate that will remain valid for life). A cost to be added to that of the initial subscription to the Shadow cloud-computing offer, still available at €29,99.
Configuration de l’Option Power
AMD EPYC™ 7543P CPU with 4 cores and 8 threads
The power of a next-generation GPU:
- NVIDIA GeForce RTX™ Class 3070 Charts
- Equivalent professional graphics cards developed by NVIDIA
- The latest AMD GPUs based on the RDNA 2 architecture, including the AMD Radeon™ PRO V620 developed for cloud computing and cloud gaming
- 16GO RAM
There will be limited stock, so if you're interested, you better pre-order. On the other hand, there will be no waiting, the option will be available, or it will not be. It is out of the question to repeat the mistakes of the past. Especially since Shadow is doing much better since its takeover. The service will be launched in new countries. On September 15, it will be Canada and Austria. And by the end of the year, Italy, Spain, Denmark and Sweden will join the big Shadow family. There are also many software improvements, such as dual screen support, better color management and joysticks.
The company has stopped taking care of its datacenters, a time-consuming activity with eight centers spread across the world (three in the US, one in Canada, three in Spain and one in Germany). This management is now outsourced to sister company OVH. A decision which aims to allow Shadow to focus on the software aspect and the customer experience. Thus, a large majority of the structure's 170 current employees are developers who are actively working to improve the brand's solutions and develop future products. Like for example the future Shadow Drive, a storage system on the European cloud, which will respect all the standards in force. A real alternative to the giants of the sector, all based in the US (with all the privacy concerns that this can cause). A soft launch is planned for very soon.
Shadow also seeks to better meet the needs of companies, with tailor-made business solutions. The objective is to be able to respond to sudden load increases, thanks to machines with pre-installed software, which can be offered to employees in just a few hours. Because, of course, as gamers, we see above all our advantage for video games. But Shadow is very suitable for other professional situations that require a large configuration, such as industrial 3D modeling or rendering in architectural firms.
This only bodes well for the French brand!
