One of the games that caught my eye during this gamescom is called Moonbreaker, published by Krafton and developed by Unknown Worlds Entertainment. I had the opportunity to test it for about thirty minutes, enough to form an opinion on the gameplay and its advantages.
The game
The game basically takes place in two parts which will each give you a different experience. If one consists of pure gameplay, the other will be entirely creative for customization lovers.
The fights
You will start by choosing your team made up of different units and a commander with his particularities. During a game, you will start by choosing one of the three command skill duos that will load as the rounds go by. In addition to the commander who will automatically be on the board, you can summon units according to your present resources.
Each resource will be both for skills and for bringing new units into the field, but it will be unable to act during the latter's summoning turn. The game will play strategically between each player until either commander is defeated. What may seem simple will in reality be extremely complex because many obstacles will be there to help you or the enemy to hide and prevent attacks, which will force you to move in your area of effect.
But you will have to be careful with your skills, because skills such as grenades or other zone skills will also affect your allies if they find themselves caught in the area of effect if the description includes: "all units present" . You will have to be careful, but rest assured, many skills also use "enemies present", as one of the command skills that will reduce the accuracy of enemies.
La personalization
You will be able to accomplish what many Warhammer or even RPG enthusiasts have been able to do for many years with paint: customize your units as you see fit. To do this, you will have a lot of different paint with different effects and different shades! Something to have fun for a while if you have an artistic soul, knowing that options allow you to paint only one area without encroaching on another, spray paint effects, stickers, etc...
You will be able to show everyone your works during your games, what more could you ask for if not to share them?!
In short
The gameplay, which is very close to strategy and which offers customization possibilities for each unit, should appeal to players who are above all looking for a tactical game as much as possible. Even if some controls are still a little uncertain, we bet that you will be able to spend a lot of hours on it, just to make the perfect figurine or compose its roster with a composition entirely painted by you! Expected release in early access on September 29.
If ever...
And if you wish, you can form your own opinion with a playtest which will aim to introduce players to the game, but also to push the servers to the limit to check if they hold up. It is possible that some decorations may take place. To participate in the Steam session, which runs from September 9 to 11 and September 16 to 18, before its launch in early access, a fairly simple thing to do:
- Login to Steam
- Search for "Moonbreaker"
- Click the "Request Access" button in the "Participate in Moonbreaker Playtest" section
- Confirm request
And now, voila !
