Creative Assembly and SEGA have teamed up to develop Hyenas, an ambitious game that will launch us into a world full of references and which has certain potential. Are you ready for the heist of the century?
History
In the near future, your team and so many others have decided to take back all the wealth that the billionaires have accumulated. And for that, you will be in competition with other teams... and the security forces present. Are you going to take the bet? Or will you fail miserably?
Graphics and atmosphere
The game wants to be quirky and it shows with a very serious/cartoon side mixed with some characters as crazy as this universe. The effects seem to be well managed and the many references to SEGA will remind us without any worries where we are. As for the sound, same story: a lot of madness and power to accompany our teams in what will be a good crazy trip.
Gameplay
Having only seen a video presentation of gameplay, I can not testify exactly to everything, but I will try to transcribe my impression.
The game takes place in areas that alternate fairly advanced verticality with zero-gravity areas that are far more strategic. But the real danger will be the competition between the teams of players who regale us with a fairly massive PvPvE. In addition to the security forces who will put a spoke in your wheels, you will also have other teams (4 in addition to yours) who will try to win the bet to succeed in the mission.
To help you, you will have several rather atypical characters, such as a ballerina, a player, etc... among others who come and go with their own agility to complete weapons and rather cool gadgets that you can find/buy. Besides, funny thing, some areas have stores marked "pay 2 win" that will give you good rewards. This will often come down to trying to do your mission by constantly monitoring the surroundings and hoping not to come across one or two teams that will kill each other.
The game happens in three phases: the preparation phase where you build up your power and prepare for the battle ahead. The looting phase where you will loot resources by confronting increasingly violent and tough security forces. And once you have finished collecting all your loot, you will go on the escape phase which seems to me to be the hardest you can have. The other teams have been warned, and you will have to flee as quickly as possible, dodging the skirmishes or risk having your loot stolen and seeing another team flee in your place. A real strategy will have to be put in place and many battles will have to be waged for total victory!
Summary
Hyenas will be a Buy to Play which, presumably, will give us very good gaming experiences, as long as we like the style. However, before deciding, I will wait for the opportunity to test the game in depth, with its quirky universe and colorful characters. Expected release on PC in 2023, if all goes well!
