I have had very, very little VR experience in my life. During this Gamescom, I had the opportunity to try two, very different, but which strongly marked me. Today, we are going to talk about Hubris, from the Belgian studio Cyborn BV.
History
We play as a rookie who wants to become an agent of a dreaded order. For our training, many tests will cross our path before we become a confirmed agent and are sent to the field. There, we will have to survive the hostile environments of a planet that does not wish us well.
My opinion: The story is borrowed from a well-calibrated touch of SF with a large dose of action to get you started. We appreciate the efforts to have a good common thread and to feel involved in the story.
Graphics
The game is really easy on the eyes - the first time I've tested this kind of game with VR - and I was immediately charmed by the universe which seemed to me quite clean and well in its style, namely SF. In addition, we are guided by an understandable and clear voice, and sounds that go hand in hand with the universe. Small mention for the underwater phase a little too realistic for my taste... where I involuntarily held my breath for I don't know what reason!
Le gameplay sauce VR
This game offers us a unique experience with several scenarios. This was intended as a tutorial for games that will be released by this studio. Suffice to say that I was really excited to do this and, despite a slight concern for sound, what did I like about this simulation!
I found myself clinging to ledges to tow myself, jumping (with the controller, don't dehorn either) between the holes to hang on better. It was quite interesting for me, because in addition to being a tutorial, we realize that it allows us to lay real foundations for the future. And what a sequel! Picking up grenades for those who later ask to throw them, or even shooting training. But more simply, we find ourselves shooting at moving targets and therefore at the same time turning to find and shoot them. Enough to make you dizzy if you are not prepared!
Conclusion
Hubris is planned for this year and will give us food for thought on the continuation of games from this studio. In any case, it's a big YES for me with this game which promises us a certain quality for the next games that we will come across at Cyborn. Personally, I want to say that, if you have the hardware, I advise you to try this game on release, because in my opinion, it is flawless. Especially if you like this kind of game with sleek graphics and a good grip. Hubris is planned on Steam and is compatible with several VR tools.
