Detroit: Become Human - A little preview of the demo

Detroit: Become Human, which is scheduled for release on May 25, has been given a playable demo (which has become very rare these days!). The latter takes us on a tutorial mission in command of Connor, one of the three playable characters of the adventure.

Regarding possible spoils: if you follow the news of the game, this mission was already presented during the PGW 2017. The latter does not show us anything of the main story of the game, it is only a "basic" mission . However, if you still want to keep total surprise and discovery, don't read on! Now, let's get to the heart of the matter!

This mission, which apparently serves as a tutorial for the game, therefore places us in command of Connor, an android investigator-negotiator who has come to solve the problem of an android who has become "deviant", having killed humans and taken a hostage with him. Deviants are androids who no longer follow their schedules and do what they are not supposed or allowed to do.

From the start, the tone and mood of the game is set: androids are there to serve, humans have no regard for them, even disgust and hate. We see it from the first seconds, when Connor arrives and the distraught mother pounces on him to ask him to help save her daughter, until she realizes what he is. , thus completely changing behavior and requiring that we send a human, not a machine.

The behavior of the head of operations, a few moments later, is of the same ilk. Connor, who tries to understand the situation in order to resolve it as well as possible, is literally sent for a walk (to be polite), the latter only being there "to do his job" and not worry about the rest.

After these happy interactions with humans, Connor gets to work! This is how the game begins, we explore the whole house in order to learn more about the situation, but also about the family, why the android became Deviant, etc. Connor offers us the possibility of "reconstructing" scenes in augmented reality, like what we saw during the investigation phases of Batman: Arkham Knight for example.

These scenes offer very important information and / or possibilities for later. During the demo, one of these scenes teaches us why the android became a Deviant, and another offers us the possibility of recovering a weapon (or not, it's up to you!) But we have to be careful, because while you explore, analyze, research, etc. the world continues to move forward. For example, if you spend too much time doing your research, the deviant will hurt a policeman who wanted to come a little too far.

Each discovery makes it possible to increase the success rate, but also to unlock possibilities for actions, dialogues: so you can be more persuasive and do actions that will have been otherwise impossible for you, etc. Some of your actions may trigger "software instability". We have, unfortunately, no information or impact of what these software instabilities cause during this demo.

Of course, even if there are objectives like “find out what happened” and so on. you can do whatever you want, however you want. Even if we have several objectives, nothing obliges you to follow them and you can go immediately to meet the Deviant without having discovered anything!

Once the adventure is over, we access the choice tree, showing us the choices we have made, but also all the possible branches, actions / choices, etc. Obviously, those that you have not discovered remain hidden, you will only see a box with a padlock. In addition, as in all of the "choice" games of recent years, you will have the option to watch what all the other players have been up to, via percentages for each choice / action / branch, and you can also do that. this only displays your friends. What to compare your methods!

Conclusion

I have been eagerly awaiting the game since its first announcement in 2015 (see Kara awaken, who discovers the beauty, but also the horror of life, the androids turning in her path, as they notice that she is different, that she became alive, brrr! I still have chills!).

I've seen gameplay from this demo before, but playing it really changes dramatically. Personally, I was immediately taken in the mood, I absolutely wanted to know why the android became Deviant, so I tried to analyze and explore everything, even if it led to what one of the police officers is unfortunately injured during the intervention. And even if it wasn't my role as an android negotiator, it was impossible for me to let a poor fish die outside its aquarium or let a policeman bleed out!

This demo did its job: once finished, I had only one desire, to have the game in my hands to discover even more!
