Among all the games that you can test, you have to find the rare pearls with mechanics that stand out. Today, we have in our sights Deathloop, an FPS with characteristics of a rogue-lite and full of good ideas. Here is for you, an eternal beginning and a finality.
Graphics & atmosphere
The game has a pretty nice visual for most players, even if some textures, seen up close are quite ugly (I have fern leaves in mind for example), but fortunately ultra minority. However, the effects are very well done and the enemies are just as good. Everything is carried out in silence during the calm phases and punctuated by rhythmic music during the combat scenes.
The French dubbing of the game adds a little extra, with very funny dialogues, mean-spirited at times, a little melancholic at others and quite vulgar when it goes into a spin. Having characters yelling at us by chasing us, taunting us or killing us is quite immersive.
History
You play as a person on the beach who doesn't remember anything. By following the writings, you will quickly find yourself embarked on a story that will allow you to explain to yourself what is happening: you are in an endless loop that has been going on for a while, and which is protected by Juliana, who does not will ceaselessly want to eliminate you through all the iterations of this day.
A little digging reveals that you were an integral part of the system, as head of security, but something made you change your mind... but what made you forget everything? What is behind all this? And how are you going to stop this loop that makes the same day repeat itself over and over again?
Gameplay
equipment
Deathloop offers us classic FPS mechanics for the framework of the game, but including many mechanics that will alter your experience according to your style. You will have the possibility to play the game in a completely stealthy way, eliminating your enemies by hacking turrets, dodging them, or simply killing them by sneaking into your back. But on the contrary, you can bugger by watering them with a rain of pellets, or by using modules of a rather violent power. Want more power? You can even take small arms in each hand to be even more nag.
Your equipment can be obtained by picking it up, day after day, and you will lose it at the end of the day... unless you advance far enough to unlock the infusion which will allow you to keep it from one loop to another. With this, you will be able to keep your fabulous legendary pistol that you like so much, the modules recovered from your enemies or even really useful charms. But will you tell me, what are the modules or the charms?
The modules are like skills that you will extract from the remains of certain enemies and the charms are weapon or personal modifiers that will give some very practical effects: increase the power of allied turrets, decrease the damage you receive, increase your precision , hack from further away...etc. many effects are possible to refine your style. All this is added with a hacking tool and grenades that can be thrown conventionally or placed in proximity mine/laser mine mode.
PS: you can die twice before dying definitively on the current mission thanks to your personal module.
The aim of the game
You will be able to browse the 4 maps of the game during the 4 periods of the current day with the aim of first exploring thoroughly to find clues about the habits of the visionaries (no I will not tell you what it is, I'm not spoiling too much), the weapons you can find, or the indirect methods to eliminate your enemies. For example... you can blow up an area, kill certain enemies or cause trouble to prevent enemies from arriving, or even complete your objectives.
By playing on this, you will be able to complete objectives, earn valuable resources and information to find the perfect iteration of your day to break the loop and return to a normal timeline. But be careful, several times, you may come across Juliana who wants to save her and thereby taunt you and kill you as much as she can...her or one of her iterations that you may come across. But don't expect silly bots, real players will be able to invade your world to hunt you down, and you'll be dealing with all the deceit that goes along with them. So, will you be the hunter or the prey?
In any case, you will have to follow many leads before arriving at the final result, and it can take you a lot of time if you miss the right clues, and for that... exploration will remain essential. Moreover, the areas will change depending on the time of day, between the location of enemies, accessible places, or present traps. Good luck myself, and see you tomorrow maybe... or not.
Note: I have often had bugs asking me to leave the current area, start a loop again or risk crashing, on the forums, I saw that certain places are more conducive to this, and can affect everyone.
Summary
Deathloop has a very strong potential to entertain players with the many assets at its disposal. However, the specifications to run the game correctly on PC are a bit high to put it in an acceptable quality, and the bugs that we come across can quickly make us stop. But if you take that out of the equation, you've got a really interesting, action-packed or stealthy product. Personally, I recommend it to fans of the genre, but I'll venture to put a damper for those who repel exploration and puzzles.
