The Lucid Sound headset comes in a soft cardboard packaging. Very flexible. Too soft. It arrived at my house in a rather problematic state. And I can't even put this on the carrier's back, because this cardboard is very fragile and even breaks down a bit when you try to remove the tape that seals the package.
Worried about the state of the contents, I hasten to open it.
Fortunately, the helmet seems unscathed thanks to the mold in which it is inserted and which is a little more robust than the outer packaging.
The presentation leaves a little to be desired and we can clearly see that we are on an entry-level product at the top of its 60€.
The LS10X helmet is supplied with a flexible detachable microphone, two emblem discs, a leaflet and a sticker. If the rest is classic, the emblem discs will probably be more enigmatic for you. These are actually the magnetic discs that are placed on the headphones in order to customize your headphones a little by buying new ones on the Lucid Sound store. For the moment, few disc models exist, since there are only 3 color variants of the manufacturer's logo, but we bet that the future will see the range of these "Speaker Tags" expand. That said, the price of 20€ for a new pair of plastic discs with a small magnet in their center seems a bit excessive.
When hooked up to the Xbox controller, the LS10X sounds extremely good for its price. The Atmos system, or rather Windows Sonic in the context of this test (free Microsoft alternative to the Atmos system from Dolby, which requires it to pay a license of 15€). It's very simple, it's like being in a cinema that uses the Atmos so well the spatial sound is transmitted.
To test a gaming headset, there's nothing like playing Overwatch with it, a real audio benchmark, to check what it has in the game. The result is striking and the headset even manages to bring out the smallest detail. almost imperceptible otherwise. Great art...
In audio chat mode, the headset is effective and allows clarity in discussions without any real interference in one direction or the other. It is so far the only helmet that has given me complete satisfaction on this side.
Moreover, since it is possible to connect it to your telephone, the telephone conversations are also of very good quality, even if, since the interlocutor with whom I tried it is my mother, I regret in this case precise not to have had less sonic clarity because it is never silent.
The headset manages to mix chat voices with game sounds at the same time without difficulty, again happily, but your experience will vary depending on the audio settings of the console's built-in mixer.
Watching videos is just as enjoyable, especially since the LS10X isn't heavy and doesn't weigh on your head after several hours of continuous play, unlike many headsets. Films compatible with this technology take on their full meaning in Atmos, even if you don't have the same comfort with headphones on your ears as with a dedicated cinema installation in your living room. But whether you want to spare the neighbors or your bank account, the LS10X does its job very well in this area.
The LS10X being a headset for Xbox One, it remains compatible with all kinds of equipment thanks to its 3.5 jack connectors.
It will therefore work, among other things, on PC, telephone and even on Playstation 4 and 5.
Be careful though, because on Playstation 4, although it is not extremely serious, a slight latency is felt when speaking into the microphone. Something that doesn't seem to happen on other devices I've tried the headphones on.
The sound control is not done via a remote control integrated into the jack cable, as is the case with many wired headphones, but is done directly on the headphones. Indeed, the left ear is composed of a volume wheel in order to adjust the latter and, by pressing the disc on this same side, the microphone is muted or reactivated (a red indicator integrated into the microphone lights up if the latter is cut).
In fact, the LS10X is a very good entry-level helmet with an excellent quality/price ratio. Its spatial audio prowess and simplicity make it suitable for many versatile people. Purists will however point out its lack of balance options to adjust their Atmos experience to their liking, but this is clearly not the objective of the LS10X which offers a beautiful spatial audio experience in game at an affordable price and it is already not so bad.
