Z: Steel Soldiers was developed by the Bitmap Brothers and released in 2001 on PC. It has been available on Steam since this summer in a version remastered by Kavcom, Tick Tock and Kiss ltd.
For those who don't know, Z: Steel Soldiers is a real-time strategy game but like all Bitmap Brothers games, there is always a quirky tone in the dialogue. The game is a logical continuation of this first opus where we play the commander of a faction to create combat units to fight his opponents to take control of territories. Unlike its competitors, Warcraft 2 or Warzone 2100, the game is more based on controlling areas than harvesting resources.
On the program, we are offered 30 missions on 6 worlds, in various environments such as desert, volcanic soil, glaciers, tropical forest or even a magnificent archipelago in the southern seas. To defend all this, you will have land or air units to do battle with the armies of ZOD. The vehicles are inspired by our military vehicles, from the Second World War to the present day.
Unlike the previous version, it is possible to select an infantry unit individually. Otherwise the principle remains completely identical, one creates units according to a unit of time, which is more or less long according to the unit that one chooses. Factories are on land that must be appropriated to build new units, and the general principle is domination.
Regarding the remaster, the tutorial has been simplified compared to the original version. The graphics have been heavily smoothed, as well as the animations. The icing on the cake: the game is now translated into spanish! Thanks to the work of the studio, bugs have been fixed since its release in early August, notably concerning the reactivation of cut scenes and videos, the ranking and the successes. On the other hand, the multiplayer mode is still not there.
By way of conclusion, a little video for this game which, in my opinion, is intended more for fans of the series or nostalgia than new players. The game is 13 years old, and despite great efforts to improve it, you can still feel it.
