If you haven't had the time (or paying a damn subscription to test a demo didn't tickle you), here's a quick rundown of the Monster Hunter: World demo. Finally, 2 previews in one, since I'm not the only one to have tried Monster Hunter: World. Eledhwen was there too, and you can read his opinion as well.
Kathlyn's opinion
In a nutshell, Monster Hunter: World turns you into a hunter. You will hunt down the slightest trace left by your prey in the company of your Palico, a competitive cat companion.
In this version, the creation of its hunter is limited to a choice among a few models, but the full version will offer a more successful system. You can also choose your Palico.
This demo gave access to the training area as well as three hunting contracts to be carried out solo or with others. The training was ideal for getting a feel for weapons, and to say the least, there was a choice. From a super heavy sword to the morpho-ax, passing by the double-blades or a crossbow, everyone could find their happiness and their style.
I've tested several, and each has its own gameplay: you can feel all the weight that the most imposing weapons have for example, or the agile side when you opt for a very manageable object ...
We must also think about the beast we are going to hunt down, the equipment that can give us a definite advantage: reduce the effects of stun, increase resistance to fire, etc ...
Return to the menu to select the multi-player mode in order to take my first steps as a hunter in the company of Eled '. Little information on our first target, except that we have to follow the traces left by his big belly. To help you locate important items, you can count on navicioles: these little insects assist you by memorizing the scent of the monster and guiding you to anything that is likely to interest you. It's very practical, because not everything is immediately obvious.
The charm operates very quickly. The armor, the weapons are detailed and this beauty is not confined to our character. The game is sumptuous, nature alive, rich. Even the sound environment is of high quality. For the immersion and the change of scenery it is successful. The hunt to take place in a limited time will leave little room for contemplation of the landscapes during this demo, but that did not prevent me from appreciating the environment. (You will have to skip the screenshot, she had a little problem.)
The combat gameplay will take a long time to master. There are so many parameters to take into account to become a hunter knowing how to hunt with panache. Playing with the different types of damage, the elements, the tools, counting on the Palico's capacities, on the environment, etc ... The demo lets imagine many hours before assimilating all this for novice players. This lack of experience did not spoil my pleasure too much, even if I would have appreciated a more developed tutorial in the game (otherwise, there is a guide). Here it is too much at once, but nevertheless welcome the permanent display of combos, very practical!
The handling remains good, we will note a few camera angles a little crappy at times, but not enough to throw his controller.
Before the effort, the comfort ... No?
So this demo, does it sell dreams?
Yes and no. It remains a little sketchy and empty, does not praise the novelties which want to bring a second wind to the Monster Hunter license. The craft is not mentioned, nor the fact that we will have a story and not a series of beast and villainous fights. We are shown "just" how the hunt looks.
But with this taste of too little, we also want to see more! Is this new world as beautiful as I have seen? Will the fights be as smooth as this demo suggests? In any case, with its rich gameplay and multiplayer mode, you can already bet on many hours of hunting with friends!
Eledhwen's opinion
So the difference between a good and a bad hunter ... So the good hunter, he sees a Rathalos, he shoots, and the bad one, he flees!
From December 9 to 12, the Monster Hunter: World beta opened its doors, reserved for owners of a Playstation plus subscription.
Several modes were available, solo or in groups.
Two different accessible areas: the old forest and the termite desert, a training area and three monsters to hunt with a difficulty level ranging from easy to difficult, but not only!
You could roam the map freely, and if you wanted to, face much more formidable monsters, such as the Rathalos and the Diablos, which are reserved for seasoned players, introduced to the mechanics of Monster Hunter.
Because yes, the beta is overwhelming you with information and it may seem a bit off-putting at first, but as you fight, you start to spot some subtleties in the gameplay, elemental damage, traps, healing items, type of damage, the parts of monsters to target, the weapons to choose, etc ...
Eled, look, I'm ready!
I got to test the game with Kathlyn first, both new to the game, and we had a blast tracking down the monsters and fighting them, playing against the clock to achieve our goal.
You had 20 minutes in the beta to complete the Monster Hunt quest given by your quest giver, instead of the 50 minutes you will have in the final version of the game.
In return, the difficulty has been adjusted and you have predefined sets with a wide enough choice of weapons to be able to give you an idea of how they work.
I was then able to test the game at 4 with experienced friends and fans of the series, and there the pace was much more sustained. I could see a way of playing much more strategic, and the cohesion of the attacks between the different members of the game can change the course of a fight, for example putting 8 large barrels of powder next to a sleeping target and waking her up by blowing up everything, the resulting show having nothing to envy of director Michael Bay's best scenes!
Being a newbie to the world of Monster Hunter: World, the beta made me want to know more, especially about the equipment manufacturing part and stories, elements missing from the beta, and I think you will enjoy it a lot. more play in multiplayer mode with friends!
Completing the 3 missions during the beta will give you access to bonuses on the final version of the game (with the same account used during the event) which will be released on January 26, 2018!
And you, have you had the opportunity to test the demo? What did you think of it?
