Action Henk, already presented in early access by Onidra some time ago, officially released on May 11 latest, an indie game developed by RageSquid which mixes racing and platform.
History
If you know Toy Story, you know the story of Action Henk. As soon as the toys find themselves alone, they organize races. The story is not the important or interesting point of the game and only serves to justify and explain the reason for these races and the characters we play.
gameplay
The gameplay of Action Henk is very simple and easy to learn: left, right, slide and jump, these are the only keys needed to complete the races. Some levels will require you to collect and use a gadget, the grapple, but that will not fundamentally change the gameplay.
Despite the fact that the game is easy to learn, it will still take a minimum of technique and tactics if you want to get the best medals.
It is possible to play it on the keyboard or on the controller (which I personally recommend)
The game has a total of 9 worlds, each possessing five levels standard, a challenge level as well as'a bonus level unlocked only if one obtains a gold medal in all the previous tables thus offering a total of 63 levels :
- Standard levels will ask you to race against a ghost representing a medal (bronze, silver, gold, rainbow).
- The challenge level you will face a "boss" and some of these levels will allow you to unlock new playable characters.
- The bonus level will ask you to collect in a given time all the coins of a level. The latter will be presented more like a platform game than a race.
During races, it is possible to choose a ghost with which to compete. These each represent a medal. Bronze, silver, gold and rainbow medal. You can also choose to select your friends' 'ghost' if they are also playing the game.
Once a level is completed, the scoreboard appears. In the latter, several classifications are available: the world ranking, grouping together the score of all players, the top 10 which presents, as its name suggests, the 10 best times on the level in question and the scoreboard friends score.
As you progress, you will also be able to unlock different heroes who are a total of five.
One of the strengths of Action Henk is undoubtedly its level editor linked to Workshop from Steam. The latter, very easy to learn, allows anyone to create and publish levels playable by everyone.
Currently, the Workshop already has a collection of over 300 community-created levels, promising an immense lifespan.
Action Henk also has a multiplayer mode. The latter allows you to face up to 20 players simultaneously.
Graphics and audio
The game offers a very colorful graphic aspect. The decorations are very varied and pleasant. We move in a room, in a nightclub, on a beach, in the jungle and much more.
Sound level, we find music perfectly sticking to the quirky universe, moving from atmospheric elevator music during loading screens to more rock music during the routes.
Conclusion
Action Henk has everything to please and seduce. An offbeat universe, well done races, increasing and present difficulty. The Workshop as well as the multiplayer mode allows an almost unlimited lifespan and all, for only 14,99 €. You can also fall for the double pack at € 22,99
