Story: The Meeting of Ellen and Magnus
The boat was sinking body and goods. Little Ellen Kiel, nestled in her parents' bunk, was waiting for them to come back to pick her up.
The black, bubbling water rose inexorably. A blackish, oily sheen appeared on its surface. It was cold, icy even, when it finally reached the toes of the little girl.
Ellen curled up as far as she could into a corner.
The closet doors swung open and all their things sprang out: clothes, toiletries, and books fell into the water before slowly sinking.
" Mom ? Ellen called. "Mom, where are you?" "
A monstrous moan rose from the depths and the ship creaked.
" Mom ! "
The water continued to rise. She slowly filled the cabin from floor to ceiling, while the walls slanted ever more.
Trembling with all her being, Ellen ventured into the water. Her tears were lost in the sea that threatened to swallow her.
When she was overwhelmed, Ellen promised the gods to be a model little girl, forever, if they would allow her parents to come and get her. I beg you, she implored silently. I'll be good !

Story: Evon Gnashblade takes the lead
Evon Gnashblade stood at attention in front of legionnaire Aria Grincfang and the rest of her troop. The air was filled with awkward silence.
"Why didn't you do what you were ordered to do, soldier?" growled Gnashfang. Yet you understood my order, didn't you? ". She walked over to Evon until they breathed the same air.
He had to raise his muzzle above hers so as not to suffocate. "Permission to speak freely?" "
“Oh, that promises. Please speak. "
Evon could feel the rest of the troop imperceptibly pulling away from him. He drew from it a feeling of superiority: their retirement was an undeniable sign of cowardice. It only reinforced a conviction he had held for several days, since he had received his orders for the first time.
Evon had been a good soldier for the twenty years since his birth. He had excelled from the fahrar, attracting the attention of the most prestigious officers of the Ash Legion, and had never questioned his orders, until now. He chose his words carefully.
“I'm not sure this approach will work, Legionnaire. "
Grincfang snorted contemptuously. "Aren't you 'sure'? Well, let me tell you a good thing: if the results aren't there, my dagger will find you. You understand ? "
“Legionary,” Evon insisted before Grincfang could strike him, “the inhabitants of Lion's Arch will react badly to threats. They must feel that they are getting something back for their investment. They are not stupid farmers. They are former hackers, yes, but they are forming a community now. They only have respect for business and ingenuity. This strategy of intimidation is inappropriate. The Ashes cannot do that. He was out of breath and had to stop to catch his breath.
Grincfang's lips twitched to reveal a long, sharp canine. "Oh, they'll pay for their protection or we'll make them regret that they didn't." Out of sight before I change my mind about your fate. " [...]
