As always, I was invited by the ArenaNet development team to preview the new content coming to our servers this week. This time, and as the title noted, I have trod the frozen lands in the new episode of the Frost Epic saga (Living World Season 5).
Before discussing what I was able to do during this game session, the developers presented us with the various additions of this new update. First of all, as you can imagine, a new episode offers a new personal story and various achievements including a skin specific to the unlocking of the meta-achievement. Players will be able to unlock the northern part of the Bruinewood Coast and the purpose of the meta-event in this area which will end in the Frost Citadel. We will then find three new adventures and a new mastery that unlock quickly enough for once.
In addition to the content related to the story, there are also the usual cosmetic additions to unlock either through the new part of the map or via crafting. We find for example the skins of the Dominion or the Tier 2 of Stormcaller weapons. To also help you in the battle, you can find specific ice infusions for the creatures encountered on the Bruinewood Coast.
To avoid any spoilers for this new episode, we didn't do a story scenario but we did track several events on the map to raise the bar for the meta-event. You can imagine that with a team reduced to ten players including novices in MMOs or GW2, even adapting to the number of people present, the developers have subtly cheated to unlock the content as the session progresses. The goal of this new episode is to wrap up the map's meta-event by incorporating all of the mechanics seen in the previous episodes and related to it.
As before, many of the mechanics are similar to those of the World vs. World (WvW) game mode where you have to strategize to gain the advantage over enemies by for example taking supply points or building siege engines. . A clash will then begin in the Citadel where players can and will face the Frost Legion. Unfortunately for you and us, the Citadel is not the end as the Claw of Jormag awaits you, perched on an out of reach ice ridge. To get her out of her lair, you will need to rehabilitate the surrounding cannons to spray her with shells and other flourishes that you throw at her. After a while, the second half of the fight begins and players will attack the dragon directly. Different avoidance mechanics will have to be performed during this confrontation under penalty of being thrown completely from the cliff and potentially dying from the damage of the fall!
To conclude, besides the story that I started a little and which brings many answers, the conclusion of the meta-event was really successful by the development team and the final fight against the Claw of Jormag was great. show, requiring players a certain rigor / concentration under penalty of being shamefully punished!
