Endless Legend is a 4X developed by the spanish studio Amplitude. The 4X stands for exploration, expansion, exploitation and extermination. The best known game in this style is Civilization. Endless Legend therefore takes place in a fantastic universe where your goal will be to build a nation. The game takes place in the same universe as Dungeon of the Endless and Endless Space.
Since the game is in early access, we do not yet have access to all of the content. But the existing one is already very promising. Four of the planned eight factions are available.
Graphically, it's pretty.
In addition to your city to manage, you have a hero who can, with the help of several other units, act as defense and attack. The hero is a somewhat separate unit that will need to be equipped like a classic role-playing game.
The game also generates random quests, making each game unique and each start of the game more or less difficult. The quests allow, in addition to scripting the game, to recover some rewards in the process. They are quite varied, ranging from destroying a camp, to developing a particular point in your city.
For the fights, there is a system very close to the T-RPG (role-playing game in turn). You will need to place your units carefully and attack intelligently according to the attributes of your units. It is important to note that you can stack your units on the map. Thus, your hero, for example, can explore the map accompanied by several infantry units. If you enter combat in this case, you will therefore have to place all of your units in the combat zone before starting the latter. And you also have the possibility of making the fights in automatic mode.
You will also have to deal with the change of seasons in-game. As you can see from the screenshots below. But the effect is not only aesthetic. In winter, your city produces less and units move less far and lose visibility.
Here is the game in summer.
And here is winter.
In terms of city management, you must produce certain buildings to increase your production. And you can queue everything up early in the game if you want to deal with exploring the map rather than managing the city.
This queue is also possible for searches from different eras. The game has five in all, each corresponding to an advanced stage of development. Each era is divided into 4 parts corresponding to the military, economic, scientific / industrial field and the expansion of your empire.
On the twentieth turn of your game, you unlock the plan of empire which allows you to strengthen one of the four areas of development.
Despite its early access status, I had the pleasure of discovering a complete and complex game. We only regret two things for the moment: we cannot play in multiplayer and the tutorial is not yet available. But as that is set to change, we can only applaud the performance for this game and enjoy it as much as possible.
Finally, here is the very successful launch trailer for the game.
